OUR COLLECTION — AFRICA — BURKINA FASO 261. BRONZE NATIVITY
This Nativity is made from bronze metal by an artisan named Ousseni. He lives in the town of Koudougou, Burkina Faso. Ousseni makes clay molds for each piece of the Nativity. Then he pours molten bronze into the molds. To help the bronze cool faster, he pours water over the hot molds. Finally, he breaks the clay molds open when the bronze figures are hardened inside and then polishes the metal.
This set contains 14 pieces with some very unique animals: Joseph, Mary, baby Jesus in his manger with raw sheep’s wool around him, a round African hut, three wise men, a shepherd holding a skinny dog, a skinny camel, a donkey, a zebu cattle with hump on its back, an ox, a gazelle with horns, and a hyena. The hut measures 5 inches tall. The wise men measure 3.25 inches tall.
