La Casa de las Artesanias, San Salvador
The CASA DE LAS ARTESANIAS (House of Handcrafts) is a marketing offshoot of the Salvadoran Development and Housing Foundation, a non-profit community development organization, founded in 1968. The Casa de las Artesanias offers organizational, administrative, financial and marketing support to family workshops in the mountain villages of La Palma, Ilobasco, San Sebastian, and Nahuizalco. The organization is self-supporting and is currently exporting to the United Kingdom, Sweden, Canada, Italy, New Zealand, Australia, and the U.S. Artisans in northeastern El Salvador create wooden crosses, Nativities, and boxes painted with bright primary colors.
