OUR COLLECTION — AFRICA — ETHIOPIA 100. WOOD HOLY FAMILY WALL HANGING
This hanging Nativity was carved from eucalyptus wood by local women in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The women sell these items in a local market to support themselves and their families. The scene depicts a stable scene of Mary and Joseph watching over baby Jesus in his manger. The heads of a donkey and an ox are shown beside the Holy Family and a bird is perched in the rafters. The item measures 6.5 inches tall (not including hanging string) by 6.5 inches wide by 1/8 inch thick.
All profits from our sale of Ethiopian Nativity sets go to a nonprofit Ethiopian charity called Children of Ethiopia Education Fund. Their web site is www.coeef.org. This charity provides funds so that girls can attend school in Ethiopia who would otherwise not be able to attend because of the fees required. The charity was started in 2001 with the sponsoring of one girl; the program has grown tremendously so that in 2006 over 700 girls were sponsored.
