OUR COLLECTION — AFRICA — ETHIOPIA 118. CLAY NATIVITY PLAQUE
This clay Nativity plaque was crafted by Bethel Women Training Project, a vocational program in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, that provides training and stable employment for destitute young women. The initiative and necessary finance were provided by young Ethiopian women. The artisans’ creations are based on Ethiopian traditional artistic methods.
The abstract plaque features the Holy Family and three animals’ heads at the center of the scene, with the three wise men on the left side and a shepherd on the right. The style is simple and fairly rough. The plaque measures 5.5 inches wide and 3 inches tall.
