OUR COLLECTION — AFRICA — KENYA 416. MAHOGANY NATIVITY IN HAND OF GOD
This Nativity set is carved from mahogany wood by Daudi Mukungu. Artisans like Daudi do their carving during the day, and then often work other jobs (such as security guards) during the night to meet their financial needs.
The set was sent to us from our friend Steven, who runs an artisan workshop in a slum called Gikomba near the city center of Nairobi, Kenya. Steven also runs an orphan school to help educate the underprivileged; he works very hard to help others.
The set includes 13 figures: Joseph holding a staff, Mary kneeling, baby Jesus nestled in the Hand of God for His crib, an angel with enormous wings, a star on pedestal, three shepherds who carry their sheep against their chest, two animals, and three wise men. Joseph measures 9.5 inches tall.
