OUR COLLECTION — AFRICA — KENYA 55. BANANA FIBER NATIVITY IN FENCE
This Nativity scene is made of banana fiber figures mounted on a fenced platform. The set is made by the Kikuyu tribespeople of Kenya. The base is a 9-inch square of corrugated cardboard covered with banana fiber. The figures are banana fiber and bark wrapped around wire frames to form the figures. They have hair and beards made from the sisal plant. The faces are wood with painted features. The figures included are the infant Jesus, Mary, Joseph, the three wise men, a donkey and two lambs. A similar set stated that it was made by the Kamba people of Kenya.
