This Nativity set from Malawi is carved from valuable, heavy ebony wood. Ebony is one of the densest woods in the world, making it very difficult to carve. The carving on this set is very detailed. The set contains Joseph, Mary holding baby Jesus, three shepherds, and three kings. An acquaintance found this set in an open market while traveling in Malawi. Nothing is known about the artisan. The tallest wise man measures 6.5 inches high.
