OUR COLLECTION — LATIN AMERICA — PERU 49. NATIVITY WITH RED HOUSE
This Nativity from Peru shows the Holy Family and shepherds in front of a house with tile roof. Each character is hand-shaped, then mounted together before the piece is fired at 900° Celsius. The piece is then hand-painted with latex paints. Clay pots are shown on the roof and on the ground. These are supposedly good-luck symbols of prosperity. A miniature church with twin bell towers also sits on the roof, denoting the home’s religious allegiance. The item measures approx. 6 inches across and 7 inches tall.
