OUR COLLECTION — ASIA — ARMENIA 183. FOUR WOOD GROTTO NATIVITY
This Nativity is handmade in Armenia. It is hand-carved from four different species of wood, including oak, ash, linden, and pearwood. It is assembled in six layers to form an interesting grotto scene. It measures 9.5 inches wide by 7.5 inches high.
This scene was crafted by Sasoon, a multi talented artist in Yerevan, who is a master of many artistic trades including painting, pottery making, wood carving, and bronze & metal works. He often makes upscale figurines from bronze and stone, but his more recent focus has been on woodworking since the completion of his army service. His humble disposition coexists with his boundless workmanship.
