OUR COLLECTION — AFRICA — GHANA  263. EBONY WOOD NATIVITY

Picture
This medium-sized Nativity set was carved from rare ebony wood by artisan John Tse in Accra, Ghana. Ebony wood is one of the hardest woods in the world, making it difficult to carve.

The set features 14 figures: the Holy Family, an angel, a hut with carved thatched roof, a shepherd, two sheep, an ox, a pig, a camel, and three wise men with gifts. The hut measures 8 inches tall, while the wise men measure 5.75 inches tall.

All profits from our sale of John Tse’s Nativity sets go to a nonprofit charity called Africa Heartwood Project. Their website is www.africaheartwoodproject.org. This charity will use 100% of donated funds for execution of humanitarian projects in Ghana, including:
  • Fresh water projects in remote villages
  • Expansion of vocational education for deaf students
  • Support of orphaned Liberian refugee children.
