In the early 1970s, a woman named Tania Tamari Nasir volunteered as an aid for refugee women in the YWCA. She schooled them in crafts and embroidery to help them make a living. They made embroidered goods, costumes of their country, and Nativity sets to sell to the public. She wrote about her experiences in My Silk Road: a Memoir.
