These hand-carved miniature Nativity scenes are made from an alabaster-like stone called Piedra de Huamanga, which means Huamanga stone. The stone comes from Ayacucho, Peru. Each of the scenes is approximately 3 inches high by 1.5 inches wide.

From left front:
  1. The miniature figures lie inside a house made of pink rocks glued together.
  2. The miniature figures lie inside a pot with handles.
  3. The miniature figures lie inside a hut with a straw roof.
  4. The miniature figures lie inside four leaves that are joined together at the top.
  5. The miniature figures lie inside an ear of corn.
  6. The miniature figures lie inside a carved egg.
  7. The miniature figures lie inside a carved chullo hat, which is a warm knitted hat worn by Peruvians who live in the High Andes.
  8. The miniature figures lie inside a tree with rows of branches that almost resemble a beehive.
  9. The miniature figures lie inside a frame house with pink stone roof.
